WE'RE MOVING

Before the meeting last week, Laura and I decided that a website was probably going to be a better place to host this endeavor than on this blog. So I have been working on getting one up and going. It is my first attempt but it is working now...at least some. :) I will discontinue posting events on this site and will add more on the website. Here is the link to it:

Weakley County Running Club--meeting update

Thanks to all who came out for the meeting last Thursday. We had a pretty good attendance and many more that said they wanted to come but weren't able to for one reason or another. We have lots of ideas about where the Club is wanting to go and what we are wanting to do. I am currently working on, yet again, moving all this information but this time to a website instead of here on this blog. I think the website will provide a better platform for all the things we are wanting to incorporate and a better way to let you all know what is going on. I am hoping to have it all up and going by the end of next week. I have sent the first "what do you think" to LF for her thoughts and it will probably be a work in progress.

The big jump

A couple months ago I had a conversation with a friend of mine about some thoughts I was having on one of my training runs. I was telling her that I had all these "ideas" about what to do with this blog, the group on facebook (Martin Runners--if you are interested) and the like but I was reminding myself that I don't have time to put into all the ideas I was having. She told me that she had been thinking about the same sort of things but didn't know about promoting it and where to get the people--looked like we each found what the other was missing. Seemed the time was right to get serious about this. Through several conversations, this is what we have come up with:

On Thursday, June 30th, we will be meeting at the CE Weldon Library at 6:30 to talk about what people in Weakley County would like from a running club. We want to appeal to every kind of runner--those who have run to the grocery store to those who have run marathons. We would love to see people of Weakley Country become healthier. For those who haven't ever run but have thought about it, we'd love to have you! For those who consistently run all the races around town and then travel to run others, we'd love to have you! We'd love to see those who have been running encourage those who are just starting out. We want to educate and encourage those who are starting out and challenge those who have been running awhile. Most importantly, we want to know what you want in a running club so please join us on the 30th. Bring your friends, neighbors, thoughts, questions, ideas, comments, etc and we'll see what we can do together.

Superman!

So I know this is a running blog, but I want to tell you about hubs who is going to be riding 64 miles tomorrow in Metropolis, IL at the 33rd annual Superman Bike Trek. It is his first race but I am sure it won't be his last. He is going to riding with some colleagues and this will be the farthest he has ridden before. I have to say I am pretty excited! It is my turn to watch and cheer as he competes. The kids are here too and I am thrilled they get to watch Daddy as he rides. They got to see me (I got to see them!) as I ran by during the Country Music 1/2 in April and it did my heart such good. Hope we can be and do the same for him.

It is fun to note the differences between this race and the ones that I run in.

  • The price difference: $25 vs $85 (for 1/2 marathons) or $20 for local 5Ks
  • The packet pick-up was also different: a couple people sitting under beach umbrellas outside a local mexican restaurant.
  • The race packet: a t-shirt and a map
Excited to see what differences I find tomorrow but more excited to watch hubs compete. Good luck tomorrow hubs! We'll be cheering and happy riding.

National Running Day--TOMORROW Option #2

For those not able to make it to the am run at the Westview park, what about meeting at the greenway around 5:30?
